Want a great logo? Keep it simple! PDF Print E-mail

Have you ever seen a logo that looked like a whole kindergarten’s class art project? You see so many elements there screaming to get your attention and you simply can´t figure out where to look. Why are there so many confusion elements placed together? A logo like that is set for disaster.

The main idea of your logo is to communicate what your business is all about in one quick instant. If you try saying too much in that instant people might not get your message at all, or even worse they’ll end up getting the wrong message. Overdone logos confuse people.

In a world of massive advertisement you can´t afford to have your logo sending the wrong message. To avoid confusion, just keep it simple. Simplicity should always be the goal on your logo design, while unnecessary complexity should be avoided at all cost. Think about all the great brands which logos you remember - all simple and clear, aren´t they?

1.    How to keep your logo simple?
There are a few easy steps you can follow to create a simple logo that communicates your ideas in a clear manner as oppose to confusing your audiences.

- Keep what you want to say simple and avoid trying to say too much.

Your logo should tell the story of your business and brand, this should include:
•    Your business´ personality
•    The type of services or products you offer (either by talking about what you do, or better yet, showing your customers the need you can fill or the problem you can solve)
•    What makes you different from your competition
•    Who you can best help
When you sit down to outline your business´ you´ll probably have a lot to say about these aspects. Details are probably long and complex.
The next step is to choose two or one of those main ideas that you want to communicate to your viewer –potential client- through your logo.
A simple story is the key to make sure your logo can be designed in a simple way. If you´re trying to communicate many different stories, or a really complex concept, then you´re likely to become complicated as well.

2.    Keep a simple logo design- don´t include too many details.

A logo that contains too many visual elements might be too complicated to allow your viewers to assimilate all of the information at once. Minimize the number of lines, shapes, colors and all other graphic elements to maintain a clear and clean design.
Having a balanced composition that keeps a relative level of detail of one element to another will also allow you to scale it. If you keep too many designs, it is very likely when you scale it down, some design elements will be too small or won´t print well. Simplify your design!

3.    Keep your company´s name and the icon separate.

If you place your company´s name on top of the icon of your logo, it can become harder to read. If you place text on top of the icon, it will be harder to see the icon. Separating these two elements from one another will make them both easier to read.

Following these simple steps can really help you create a logo that is simple, great and easy to remember.
